At Last! The Expert Caring and
Personal Attention Needed
to Advance Your Singing!
When I was about age 13, I began to realize that I wanted to sing. But I was afraid that people would think my voice was horrible and that I did not have the talent to sing well. Taking that first step means finding the courage. A leap of faith in yourself often pays off hugely, to benefit your whole life! I found the courage to sing for a teacher, who cared enough to listen and to discover how my singing talent could be developed. Now, after many years of performing as a soloist with opera companies and symphony orchestras, nationally and internationally, I care for my students with the same expert personal attention they need, to begin singing better immediately!
With losing Mr. Meredith, I think if it hadn’t been for you working with Kayla there is no way she could have been prepared or had the attention and opportunity to perform her KMEA solo. I am sure all of your students feel the same. It is rare to find someone with the patience, knowledge, talent and motivation to help develop these kids. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! — JILL
I’m so proud of how my daughter has done in school this first semester, and you know I’m crazy about her. I’m thankful for what you have done with her. Her improvement in her singing really has helped her overall self image. That’s a gift from God, Gretchen, and we so sincerely thank you. You’re a professional but with a heart!
Thank you also for your personal concern for her and for the stewardship of her talents. God bless you in this vocation and ministry! — PAUL

Your Singing Lessons Online!
Lessons on Demand!
Your Choice: Appointment
or No Appointment!
The most convenient and effective way to have real personalized singing lessons online with me is to take advantage of the option for a no-appointment lesson. It’s a “lesson on demand!”
No Appointment Necessary! Here’s How it Works!
We use email. When you send me a link to an audio file or a video file of your singing, I spend a good amount of time listening to it very carefully. You will have my response promptly, usually within 24 hours. Typically what you will receive is a video response, as this method often enables faster progress.
I will provide you with clear and detailed instructions for taking your singing to the next level. Any specific questions you ask of me will be answered as well in the course of the lesson you receive. You will be astounded at how much great instruction you receive, to keep forever on a video recording!
Our exchange of email messages counts as one lesson. And with each lesson you always receive a full hour of followup!
Saving Your Time, Your Money,
and Your Self-Respect!
Important! Please remember that singing lessons which do not allow for the teacher to actually hear YOUR singing and YOUR voice are a complete waste of your time and money. And your voice can be damaged, because no teacher is available to hear your singing! There is a page on this blog which details the reason for this fact, and it is found right here.
I am personally and constantly on duty for my students, and I always ensure you receive far more value than you every pay me for!
Or Choose Face-to-Face Lessons
Over the Internet in Real Time!
I also offer face-to-face lessons over the internet in real time. This option does require an appointment. Please contact me now for all details! Gretchen@SingingAndYou.com
Try some lessons with me and your self-confidence will soar! You will immediately discover the most caring personal attention, expertly tailored to your individual needs as a singer. For me, providing this service is entirely based upon the personal attention required to ensure your greatest singing progress. I consider it a sacred trust, the most essential part of my job, which I love and take seriously.
Regardless of which style of singing you feel closest to, I can teach you to sing better.
And no matter which style of music you want to sing, please understand that unless a good teacher personally hears your singing and offers individually tailored lessons, geared to your personal needs and your goals as a vocalist, the fact is that type of “singing lesson online” is a 100% waste of your time and money!

Every Singer Benefits (Big-Time)!
Do you have to be a classical singer? — Of course not! So many years of performing and teaching prove that literally all singers improve tremendously, when they learn healthy singing technique, which is exactly what I offer. You not only want to learn to sing better, you also want to prevent troubles and frustrations with how your voice works.
Dysfunction of the voice is an epidemic, particularly among singers. This is due to the amount of time we spend singing without enough attention to good technique. No matter what style of music you sing or want to sing, your vocal health is absolutely essential. Over-use of the voice, subjecting the delicate vocal cords to abuse (more common than you might think), forcing singing in spite of a hoarse voice, are a few of the most common issues causing poor vocal health.
The vocal anatomy is delicate. It is easily damaged and too often that damage is permanent. All singers must learn to care for the voice properly. If you only learn one thing from this blog, let it be this: without your vocal health, a singer has nothing.
When you have just a few singing lessons online with me, any technical habits that are not working well, holding you back, making you feel that your singing is tied up in knots, will begin to disappear for good!
The Special Case of a Touring Singer
You are only human after all. Singers of every musical style can easily suffer from a crisis of vocal health. For example, something as simple and basic as the need for a singer to drink lots of water can be neglected. Last year was not the first time that star country singer Tim McGraw suffered from dehydration, causing cancellation of performances. Touring is brutal. How can a touring singer possibly get enough rest or have the opportunity to eat properly and to drink enough water, for the health of the voice?
Many readers of this blog will be perhaps a little too young to fully realize and appreciate the genius of Frank Sinatra. In the world of non classical singers, Frank Sinatra has long been known as “the voice of the 20th century.” Here we have a great example of the public being insulated from the harsh truth of a beloved celebrity’s life. Frank Sinatra suffered and fought valiantly to sustain his singing and acting career, despite repeated and serious disorders of his vocal health. There are many credible accounts of excessive cigarette smoking and drinking of alcohol having contributed enormously to the damage of Sinatra’s voice.
The Obstacles of Traveling
Actually, the whole touring life style does create a chaotic lifestyle, making it nearly impossible for a singer to care for his/her voice. When a singer is touring, the key to survival is always getting more rest, more sleep, and more water! Otherwise, the risk is high that serious vocal health problems will arise. And if that singer continues to “power through” singing performances, voice loss is assured. Maybe it will be temporary. But there are too many tragic circumstances from over-use injuries of the voice, resulting in permanent loss of the voice.
The link below takes you to the Recommended Products page of this blog. And included there is a wonderful product to help prevent dehydration as well as jet lag and travel fatigue. Plus the other products on this page are also highly recommended for all singers! Give it a quick read here.
If you are a touring singer, please schedule a singing lesson online with me as soon as possible! I can help you in a big way and you will be relieved and so glad you gave this a try! Eager to hear from you and to get started with helping you navigate the treacherous pitfalls of touring. You should absolutely email me now: Gretchen@SingingAndYou.com.
Find Your Sweet Spot with Singing Lessons Online!
Perhaps you are not a touring singer, but you are someone who enjoys singing more locally. Or maybe you are more of a beginning singer, who hopes to develop your singing more, before you begin singing in public. Maybe you are a church choir singer, as I was for many years. Regardless of your experience level, as long as you have the desire to sing better, you are entirely welcome here! It is an honor to be of service.
Protecting Your Vocal Anatomy is Always Number One!
Most vocal troubles are preventable. Just about any singer who ever walked the earth becomes vocally fatigued at one time or another. What matters is how you deal with the issue. Vocal fatigue will happen, despite your best efforts. You must recognize it, as early on as possible. And when you realize that you are vocally tired, you must immediately begin caring for your voice, to prevent permanent damage. I will teach you exactly how to ensure your vocal health.
How do you know?
How are you supposed to recognize if your voice is tired? You should email me and ask any question about your singing, absolutely. It is my pleasure to help, always!
For your general education, this information is now included.
The earliest signs of tired, swollen vocal folds (cords) are usually:
- Hoarse sound, either with speaking or with singing or both.
- Extra breathiness in your vocal sound. Less actual singing quality and a lot more continuous stream of breathy noise.
- Skipping, stuttering, cutting in, cutting out of your vocal sound.
- Husky timbre, deeper sound quality, unusual for your voice, that seems exaggerated and unnatural.
- Loss of top notes in your vocal range. Higher part of your range either will not phonate (create sound) normally or will feel stiff, require more breath than usual, and you will have the sense that something is not at all normal.
- The voice sounds and feels strained to the point that you are aware of having to push.
- There is a rattling noise occurring actually while you are singing. This would be the false vocal folds, which are not supposed to be used for singing. Should this be the situation, there is a need for an examination by a good Ear, Nose, Throat specialist doctor as soon as possible.
When Your Voice Needs Medical Evaluation
Your throat may or may not feel dry, feel sore, or sound hoarse. So please do not make assumptions one way or the other, with respect to these particular symptoms. In fact any of these above-listed issues cry out for attention and examination by a good ENT doctor, at your earliest availability.
If you would like my help at anytime, please email me right away: Gretchen@SingingAndYou.com.
There is no charge for my assistance in helping to locate a good ENT doctor in your area. And there is no charge for a consultation pertaining to a pressing issue with your vocal health. There is also no charge for my helping you find a voice teacher in your local area, with whom you can have studio-based lessons, not over the Internet. I care a great deal about the well-being of my students. Remember, if you want to sing, I want to help!
